The TMJ Appliance®

Diagnosis and immediate treatment of TMJ disorders

The TMJ Appliance®, which does not require any special fitting, is designed to act as an initial diagnostic and treatment tool for TMJ disorder. It works by decompressing the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), helps to correct mouth breathing and tongue posture habits, as well as limits bruxing. The TMJ Appliance® achieves TMJ disorder symptom relief immediately by alleviating pressure on the TMJ and relaxes the muscles around the jaw and neck.

The TMJ Appliance® treats both intracapsular and extracapsular disorders—TMJ clicking and pain (intracapsular) as well as pain referred from the craniomandibular muscles (extracapsular).


The TMJ Appliance® Design Features

The TMJ Appliance® is a prefabricated, soft and flexible (medical silicone) appliance that is fitted by the patient. The TMJ Appliance® offers immediate diagnosis and effective treatment for TMJ disorder using the muscle and joint palpation procedure.

Directions for use

The TMJ Appliance® is to be used for one to two hours each day, plus overnight while sleeping. The patient's teeth may become slightly sensitive in the early stages of treatment. This is quite normal, however, if pain becomes excessive, decrease application time with the aim to build it back up once the appliance is accustomed to and sensitivity subsides.

    Hold The TMJ Appliance® with the tongue tag facing up.

    Place The TMJ Appliance® into your mouth.

    Keep your tongue positioned on the tongue tag.

  • Step 4

    Close down on The TMJ Appliance® and feel it working to align your front teeth and jaws.

    Keep your lips together and breathe through your nose.

    Step 5

Cleaning The TMJ Appliance®

The TMJ Appliance® should be cleaned under warm running water every time the patient removes it from their mouth.

Use Myoclean™ tablets to thoroughly clean twice a week. Myoclean™ is the recommended cleaning agent for all MRC appliances.
